Laura's nutrition career began at California State University, Chico, where she worked at the Center for Nutrition & Activity
biology. She was recently accepted into the University of Colorado's Physician's Assistant program, and is looking forward to hitting the books again starting in Fall 2018. She loves all things outdoors - hiking, camping, snorkeling - and when she's not at the beach, she's wishing she was!
In her spare time Mara enjoys training for and participating in triathlons, hiking and camping, enjoying an active, outdoor life. She and her husband (also a Sonoma County native) enjoy life with their dog Gabriel.
Laura Stever, RD
Mara was born and raised in Santa Rosa, and was volunteering at Sonoma County hospitals at the age of 14. In college, she trained as an EMT, ER tech and phlebotomist, working as a circulatory technician in orthopedic surgery and organ transplants and as a medical assistant prior to beginning her nursing career. She holds a BA in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley, a BS in Nursing, and a Masters degree in Nursing with a Family Practice Medicine specialty, earning induction into the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.
She is experienced in Urgent Care, Primary Care, and Community Health medicine, but her passion is educating and energizing the community about nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyles. She serves as a medic with the American Red Cross Medical Disaster Services and Sonoma County Medical Reserve Corps, and is a member of the Physical Activity Subcommittee of the Community Action and Nutrition Coalition of Sonoma County.
She is a former Rancho Cotati High School athlete who loves cats, reading and spending time with her extended family, as well as being our Local Sports Aficionado. Chris always has the latest on games, scores and team rankings in our area!
Dione earned her bachelor's degree at UC Berkeley and her Masters in Physical Therapy from Stanford. She worked as a physical therapist for ten years at
Ty P. Affleck, MD
Dr. Affleck is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the Medical College of Virginia. While completing a Family Practice Residency in Colorado, he became affiliated with the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and supervised drug testing crews for the United States Olympic Committee for over a decade. During a Fellowship at The Sports Medicine Clinic in Seattle he worked with high school, college, and professional athletes including the Seattle Mariners, the Rainier Cup hydroplane racers, and PRCA rodeo cowboys.
Currently, Dr. Affleck serves as the Team Physician for Santa Rosa Junior College, and serves as Medical Director for several high-profile athletic events, including the Vineman/Ironman Triathlon and Levi's GranFondo, as well as community events like the Windsor Green Half Marathon, the Human Race and Girls On The Run.
Chris was born in San Francisco and moved to Rohnert Park in high school. She has been married over 20 years, with Santa Rosa Sports and Family Medicine for over 19 years, and has two grown sons.
a couple of small parts in movies - Christina spends quite a bit of her off-work hours chauffeuring him to these events, which she enjoys, but when asked what she does with her spare time, responds "I don't HAVE any spare time!" The family travels to visit relatives in Arizona and LA when they can.

Dr. Affleck is board certified in Family Practice and fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the Sonoma County Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is the founder and board president of North Coast Concussion Management, a non-profit community benefit organization bringing concussion care expertise and education to Sonoma County student athletes, coaches and families.
At Santa Rosa Sports & Family Medicine, Dr. Affleck specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of athletic injuries with special focus on biomechanics and non-operative orthopaedics. Dr. Affleck also collaborates with specialized Nurse Practitioners and our Nutritionist to deliver a full spectrum of Family Practice services to families and athletes of all abilities who share the desire to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
Promotion, implementing and managing school and community-based childhood obesity prevention programs. After graduation, Laura completed her dietetic internship at Cal Poly Pomona and spent her clinical rotations at City of Hope, a nationally recognized cancer research hospital.
Upon receiving her license as a registered dietitian, Laura returned to the Chico area to work at two local hospitals and began dabbling in the culinary field as a chef. In 2009, Laura took a break from nutrition and dove head-first into the world of classic French and Italian cuisine at Cook Street School of Culinary Arts in Denver, Colorado, where she earned a food and wine certificate and became a certified personal chef. Since then, Laura has returned to California to combine her nutrition expertise and passion for health with her culinary knowledge to help others achieve optimal health and enjoyment from their food.
When she isn't seeing patients or teaching classes, Laura practices yoga, plays in her garden, and volunteers for the American Cancer Society.
San Francisco's prestigious St. Francis Hospital Sports Medicine Center and at orthopedic physical therapy clinics in Colorado and Virginia. At SRS&FM, she serves as our liaison to the local community. She volunteers as a youth sports coach and is proudest of the co-ed volleyball team that brought boy's volleyball to Sonoma County. She loves her two grown kids, her family and her Cal Bears, not necessarily in that order.
